Power of Brand

Like many, I’ve had a multidimensional career that’s taken some unexpected turns but every chapter provides wisdom and insight that has served me at a later date.

My early career was spent in brand marketing and I loved it. I was fortunate to work on big brands like Disney and Diet Coke. I loved the strategy, stewardship and power of consumer connection with the brand. I loved digging into and refining the brand DNA, how would we grow and evolve the brand? What were the core values of the brand? How could we push the envelope creatively and where did we need to keep reverence for the past? All of it was challenging and a ton of fun.

What does branding have to do with leadership coaching? Tons. In today’s world your reputation, your brand is much more visible to a wider audience than ever before. You are your own brand manager and as such should understand and be intentional about what your brand is.

Many leaders may have a sense of their brand, but have a hard time articulating where they are and where they want to be. If you’re not sure what your brand is how can you know if your behavior is helping or hurting your brand? How do your peers, direct reports, broader team experience you? What do you want people to feel when they’re with you?
